A Quick Guide to Buying Your Ideal Hybrid Bicycle

Buying the right hybrid bicycle seems daunting, because of all the available options.  In this short guide, you will learn how I bought mine (see image below) without knowing anything about bicycles in general with an extra tip at the end.

This is the hybrid bicycle I purchased from a local bike store.

1. Doing My Research On Bicycles

I want to mention upfront that you will not become an expert on hybrid bicycles through sheer research on the Internet. However, doing so is the best way to inform yourself prior to making any purchase. To avoid overanalyzing though, set yourself a deadline for making a decision. For me, an hour and a half of focused and dedicated online research during three to four days was enough. My suggestion is to learn as much as you can until you no longer have lingering questions in your mind. I recommend that during your research you formulate a list of personal requirements so that you can narrow down your choice selections.

2. I Talked To An Experienced Cyclist

Afterwards, I recommend you find the nearest bike shop in your area and speak directly to an actual expert on hybrid bicycles. Having a conversation with an expert  to validate your core knowledge and perhaps even learn something you did not come across in your research is extremely valuable. The bike shop owner will also determine your ideal height and dimensions. You can also try some of the models directly inside the shop to get a personal feel from them. Ask for recommendations from the expert and then do some additional online research on these suggestions. Find out as many real reviews as you can and their price ranges. If you are satisfied, then you are ready to make the purchase, but otherwise you can look for other models in other stores.

3. Extra Tip

I find the previous method to work best if you live in a rural area. However, if you live in an urban or suburban area, then I would definitely also consider buying used bicycles. A big city will always have TONS of cyclists with all kinds of bicycles and I know people who found good deals just because they live in or next to one. You have to make sure that it is in good enough condition for you though and that it also fits your personal requirements. At the end of all of this, you should have made a decision in no time and all that will be left is to purchase your very own touring bike!
