My First Step In Vlogging

Introduction

So after 7 months of blogging and uploading all sorts of content on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, I slowly started to envision how to fuse all of these channels together. I really enjoy having these projects, because they serve as my creative outlets. I can live my life, document everything as much as I can to reflect proudly in the future and provide content for anyone. Because my ultimate goal would be to travel indefinitely, I thought hard about what sorts of content would be ideal for me to share while I am traveling. I am still convinced that what I am doing now will be the way to go. Just documenting everything that occur organically in my life and improve my editing skills along the way. Whether I succeed or not, I will be proud of having all of these memories and sharing them with anyone around the world. Nonetheless, throughout this whole visualization process, I had the brilliant idea of providing vlog type videos!

The Goal

As an early blogger, my article topics are still mainly about my life and my progress in any areas of it. I found out that this is not uncommon amongst other bloggers, because it’s how they can prove that they know how to help others. One other blogger I have mastermind meetings with for instance, went surfing at a beach in Sweden and then wrote an article detailing the best places to surf. He also surfed in other Scandinavian countries in general so he knows a lot about the topic. That all inspired me to pursue this idea of vlogging. If I could provide content just showing the experiences, writing articles based on them and posting relevant pictures , then that would be ultimate method to blend everything sort of together. All of my channels would be in harmony and content from one complements the other well. If someone from my audience would ,for example, prefer watching my videos, then they would have many options to choose from. If someone sees one of the pictures and likes them, then having videos would give them even extra content to enjoy them even more. Generally speaking, whenever I would be looking for information online, I would look for people who have been through that kind of experience and then sort of formulate my own perspective on it. Of course, I also use platforms like ChatGPT that rely on artificial intelligence to answer my questions, but I also look for real-life examples just to internalize better that it is possible. If someone reads my articles, because they want to know my ideas and recommendations, a part of them would also want to know that an actual human has experienced it and ideally the one writing about it. In that case, the pictures and the videos would then come into handy. My goal is really to supplement my blog posts. I am naturally writing in my diary and I like to write down my thoughts and express my opinions through writing. However, I also want to experience life and activities and videos are the best ways to document the events. Once I look at the videos and sort of remember my thoughts and ideas, then my posts will make more sense. It also keeps me accountable so that whenever I say something or aspire to achieve something, I actually go and do it and then show the world all the hard work.

How to get into vlogging?

I could theoretically film with my smartphone, but I know in advance that it will be impractical while I am traveling. One reason is that my smartphone has very limited memory space. I can only film for a maximum of 31 minutes and having two videos of 31 minutes takes over my entire phone memory. Secondly, I also take pictures with it and having to jump from taking pictures to filming is inefficient in real-life and for editing. Having cuts every 5 minutes just to take pictures will make the footage look bad and even hard to edit, because I will have to piece together the daily snippets chronologically in a way that would still be enjoyable to watch. Also, since I will be moving all over the place and doing miscellaneous stuff, I will quite possibly need my two arms to do these tasks. Therefore, I will need a much stable, durable and reliable equipment than my smartphone. I will risk breaking it while traveling otherwise.

What equipment do I need for vlogging?

As a total beginner, I will get myself a camera with high-quality footage that is portable (can fit in a bag without too much problem), durable and with very high memory (ideally up to 24 hours). I want it to be durable in case I need to take it with me through rainstorms, dense forests, snowstorms, or any hectic city events or any harsh weather conditions. I want it to film for 24 hours or more, because I will be filming every possible thing from my days and I don’t want it to run out by the end of the morning. I could be missing out on the rest of my days. I will also get myself a small portable microphone, in case the one from my camera is not the best one. I would like the camera footage-quality to be really good, but if the microphone isn’t as good for the price I will be willing to pay, then I will get myself a small portable one just in case.

Conclusion

Although this article was about my first step in vlogging, it is actually not my first time doing it. I have filmed vlog-like videos showcasing days in my life already just for fun and to see if that kind of content would resonate with anyone. I filmed everything with my smartphone and with a webcam plugged into my computer. However, I will get into filming everything firsthand while traveling which should it make my content a little more interesting hopefully.
